Mosaic

The mosaic creates a new communal focal point in the Schiller Quarter, where everyone is welcome. To enable dynamic pathways through the district, the central part of the former warehouse was removed. This approach results in inviting courtyard spaces and functional floor plans. At the heart of the open area is the community center.

Within the former office complex, an artists' courtyard is being created, inviting visitors to exhibitions hosted by the surrounding studios. Various cafés, shops, and the library enliven the neighborhood on the ground floor. A social department store and a material exchange promote sustainable consumption and reuse. The shelter for the cold weather includes a cafeteria that is open to everyone during the day and provides warm meals for homeless individuals in the evening.

In the northern complex, the existing structure is showcased externally, creating balconies for residents and highlighting the character of the former warehouse. The extensions are built using a straw-wood module system developed in the accompanying seminar.
